Oedema began his career as a
performing artist and musician by the age of twelve in the
Bronx, NY. After years of guitar lessons, church gigs, and
school plays he formed a trio called Super Shine with Neal
Anderson on drums and Freddy Morales on trumpet. Influenced
by Motown, Salsa, and 70’s Hard Rock, Super Shine were well
known throughout the neighborhoods for being one of the first
crossover acts who wrote and performed their own music.

The second chapter of the Oedema story saw a move from
the Bronx to Central Jersey. Invariably and for several years
a string of gigs in local cover bands as a guitarist, singer,
and bassist followed, most notably Zipgun. However, this
experience was reinforced by disciplined rehearsal and the
honing of stagecraft which began the germination of the
Oedema persona.

Throughout the next few years nothing is known about
Oedema. This period is referred to as Twilight Time.

And then there was Vas Deferens…
leading
Oedema with Vas, TikTok, and Cloaca began writing,
rehearsing, recording, and gigging in 1987. With a penchant
for iconoclasm, irreverence and inside jokes, Vas Deferens
began by producing a body of work which defines the avant
garde punk scene. They’ve gone on to slop grunge and hip
hop over tongue-in-cheek slices of alternative
life and political satire, chant out 10 minute
Gregorian epics, reduce antagonism to punk-
pop masterpieces, and blaze through under-
two-minute fusion-fests. Over these many years of various personnel shifts, artistic evolution, and profound changes in the very nature of “The Biz”, Vas Deferens continues to work together. A close-to-original lineup reunited in 2003 with Xysma replacing TikTok, and
another new release is scheduled for the upcoming season. Could a tour be far behind?

as Dr. Cosmo & Oedema, and releasing several CDs
of live material culled from the radio broadcasts.
leading
Oedema has been working steadily on solo material, most recently releasing Drivin’ with Oedema: Big Hits volume I. Spacin’ Out with Oedema: Big Hits volume II is scheduled
for a fall release date and there is buzz about a new tour featuring an interactive video light show.
